Much of this often happens within a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Spatial_database\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">spatial database<\/a>, however, this is not essential to meet the definition of a GIS. In a broader sense, one may consider such a system also to include human users and support staff, procedures and workflows, the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Geographic_Information_Science_and_Technology_Body_of_Knowledge\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">body of knowledge<\/a>&nbsp;of relevant concepts and methods, and institutional organizations.
